Dorothy Papadakos at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (New York City)

Renowned concert organist DOROTHY PAPADAKOS was recorded August 3, 1999,  performing several thrilling improvisations on traditional hymn tunes at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. With a length of 600 ft (equivalent to two football fields placed end-to-end!), the immense cathedral poses unique challenges for the organist, as she discusses on the program. We hear this magnificent instrument as it sounded before the fire in 2001, which silenced it for several years.
